Thirsk boasts it’s own museum, race course, swimming baths/gym and of course The James Herriott Museum.

St. Mary’s church which is situated in Kirkgate nearby to Thirsk Hall. This very church is where James Herriott got married to his bride (5 November 1941) Joan Danbury. The couple had two children, James  (Jim), born 1943, who also became a vet and was a partner in the practice, and Rosemary (Rosie), born 1947, who became a physician in general practice.

St. Mary’s is an Anglican Church situated at the end of Kirkgate.This magnificent, medieval church built somethime between 1420 and 1480  is often called ‘The Cathedral of North Yorkshire’ because of its outstanding Perpendicular Gothic architecture, size and prominence -and not forgetting it’s 80 ft tower.
